Add any type of line to the palette using the same dialog

In the old "Specialist" diagrammers users where given specific options for adding an appropriate Line to their palette (for example, Right-click Add Association... was used to define an association in the palette as a line).

Corporate Modeler 10 allows you to create a line of any type (Hierarchy Link, Connector, Association or Relationship) using the one dialog. These lines can then be dragged from the palette onto the diagram in exactly the same manner.

How To... Add lines to the palette

Right-click anywhere in the New Objects palette.

Click Add Line ...

The Palette Line Properties dialog opens.

Enter the properties for your new line type.

Associations appear on the Object Type list in the Palette Lines Properties dialog as the name of the objects that can be connected using that object. For Example: The Object Type list may say Hierarchy Link, Connector, Process - Organization. In this case the user can create a Hierarchy Link, a Connector, or an Association which connects Process objects to Organization objects.

Click OK.

The new Line Type creates.

Associations appear on the Object Type list as the name of the associated objects. For Example: The Object Type list may say Hierarchy Link, Connector, Process - Organization. An association must be connected to objects at both ends.
A relationship must be connected to objects at both ends.
A Hierarchy Link must be connected to objects at both ends.
Hierarchy links route according to preset rules, cannot be re-routed by the user and have no properties.
Hierarchy links no longer need to be "Broken". They can be cleared or deleted in the same way as any other connection object.
Connector properties that were previously specific to a diagrammer (For example, Mandatory on Dynamics diagrams and Logical on Data flow diagrams) have been replaced by a single property called: Flow type.
