Introduction

How the Casewise Integration Pack is assisting Eni with the update of its Enterprise Architecture and Federated Modeling environments.

Challenge

  • The Eni Enterprise Architecture model is intended to represent:
  • Applications within a production environment
  • The relationships between business processes and infrastructure

Eni’s EA model contains a vast amount of information including objects, properties, logical associations between objects, and diagrams. As a result, the frequent backup and publication operation of the model utilizes a vast amount of time and memory resource for the server undertaking this procedure, meaning it becomes unavailable for normal use. To avoid any unnecessary disruption, these activities are therefore schedule to run at night.

Furthermore, a federated model has been developed for the infrastructure area to support them in capacity planning. The maintenance of this dynamic federation (alignment of shared classes between models, and updated links for navigation between the HTML publishing) is the second critical element for the maintenance of care of the whole solution.

Solution

The Casewise Integration Pack is an add-on to Casewise’s highly regarded modeling tool Corporate Modeler and grants users with the capability to automatically upload data, and schedule the publication of models. The main functionalities of the solution include:

  • Time-based scheduling of an event
  • Data acquisition in the native formats of source
  • Transformation in standard format (.csv)
  • Backup of previous versions of model
  • Automatic loading of data into model
  • e-mail notification for error
  • Publication of the model and delivery of HTML pages to the target server.

In terms of the federated models management, the Casewise Integration Pack enables:

  • Updates to the objects on the slave model
  • Updates to the properties (hyperlinks) allowing html browsing between the two model
  • Schedules Corporate Publisher to execute html publications.

Results

The main benefits to solution to date include:

  • Assistance in the human (manual) element of work involved in model updating (properties, associations and diagrams)
  • Significantly reduced levels of risks, and decreased project costs and effort
  • Model owners can schedule data loading, publications and backup.
