Introduction

APS transformed their text-based documentation into graphical representations enabling them to visualise the relationships between requirement

There are hundreds of requirements spread across hundreds of documents. If one
changes, can you analyze the impact? Can you track down precisely where a specific
requirement has been implemented? APS has found a way.

Challenge

The Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station is subject to a vast number of federal, state and business requirements. These must be tracked and implemented into site Programs and, ultimately, operating documentation. Palo Verde needed a more efficient, open method to keep the requirements and documentation in sync.

Solution

Using Casewise Corporate Modeler, APS transformed text-based Program documentation to graphical representations of the relationships between requirements, site Programs,  high-level Process Procedures and Implementing Procedures. Additionally, the power of Associations was utilized to create another level of relationships between individual requirements and Palo Verde Implementing Procedures.

Corporate Publisher worked its magic to create a set of web pages for easy navigation from high-level requirements to Implementing Procedures, regardle of where in the chain you start. The addition of search functionality makes the published output a powerful information repository. Searches on a simple requirement name or number will instantly allow the user to find all associated documentation.

Results

A simple-to-use interface to track precisely where requirement are implemented at PVNGS can be made available to anyone, including procedure authors, Program Managers and Auditors.
