Newly created lines used to be straight or "dog legged" depending upon the User Preferences set under View > User Preferences.
This setting is now diagram specific, so I can set all new connectors drawn on one diagram to be created as straight lines, or as bent lines.
Bent:
Bent causes your new lines to contain one internal point. This usually results in lines that have a right-angled bend. For example:

Straight:
Straight causes your new lines to contain no internal points. This results in straight lines. For example:

Note how both lines start and end at the same point along the shape’s edge. The Line Behavior setting only defines the number of points in the line (it only makes the connector straight or bent).
Click Tools > Options.
The Options dialog opens.
Click the Diagram tab.
Select Straight or Bent from the Line Behavior drop-down list.
All new or "redrawn" lines on this diagram will now "prefer" to be drawn as either a straight or a bent line, depending upon your selected preference.
