BPEL Accelerator

The innovative way to enable task-sharing for a distributed computing environment

BPEL (Business Process Execution Language) for Web services is an XML-based language designed to enable task-sharing for a distributed computing or grid computing environment - even across multiple organizations - using a combination of Web services. Using BPEL, a user is able to formally describe a business process that will take place across the Web in such a way that any cooperating entity can perform one or more steps in the process the same way.

What is Corporate Modeler BPEL Accelerator?
The Casewise BPEL (Business Process Execution Language) Accelerator is built on Casewise's globally adopted modeling software - the Corporate Modeler Suite - and provides a language for the specification of executable and abstract business processes. The Casewise BPEL Accelerator enables business analysts to create business process models in Corporate Modeler using BPMN (Business Process Modeling Notation) and translate these process models into BPEL, which can then be downloaded to a BPEL engine or BPM Tools for execution. This approach allows business analysts to design business process flows in Corporate Modeler and to maintain these designs as coherent components within Corporate Modeler’s repository. Corporate Modeler’s extensible repository enables the detailed information required for specific implementations of an executable BPEL process to be captured and held. Less time is therefore required to develop solutions under BPEL, while new capabilities for checking accuracy, correctness and implementation options are provided.

Through its support of the BPEL standard, the Casewise BPEL Accelerator provides full integration between Corporate Modeler and leading BPEL execution engines and Business Process Management Tools including Oracle BPEL Process Manager, Microsoft BizTalk Server, IBM WebSphere Process Server, SAP XI, Sonic ESB, webMethods Fabric, TIBCO BusinessWorks and Sun SeeBeyond eGate Integrator.

Business process designs and modeling, and their eventual implementation, is both costly and inefficient. In addition, the ongoing costs of business process updates and the resulting implementation change management are expensive and time-consuming. Therefore, the challenge of delivering a seamless interface between Business Process Model designs held in Corporate Modeler and leading BPEL execution engines and Business Process Management Tools promises to deliver both cost efficiencies and greater accuracy in their final implementation.

The BPMN - BPEL translator implemented using the Microsoft.Net Framework - uses Corporate Modeler’s XML output to generate Web Services Description Language documents (.wsdl) and .bpel format files which are ready to be downloaded to Business Process Management Tools. This translation requires minimum manual work to be carried out.

A new model template based on the BPMN extension has been created in Corporate Modeler, containing four additional object types:

  • Assignments
  • Implementations
  • Properties
  • Participants

Object types provide information about BPMN participants, variables and interfaces. Additional information that is needed to create BPEL wsdl files can be included in Corporate Modeler diagrams due to the extension of the Corporate Modeler object model. For example, new types of objects can be created to arrange input and output messages.

Overall, a tighter integration between process designs and their implementation creates a more reliable and timely deployment of solutions, thereby ensuring a higher level of assurance that the actual implementation really does represent the active business processes that the design team intended on being implemented.

The BPEL Link will provide:

  • Alignment between design / architecture and operations.
  • Reduction of the time and cost to define/automate business processes.
  • Acceleration of  SOA (Services Oriented Architecture) deployments.
  • Reduction of costs to implement new applications.
  • More business driven applications and process orchestrations.
  • Business process at the heart of the IT and execution.
