The Capability Maturity Model® Integration is a process improvement maturity model that provides organizations with the essential elements of effective processes. The model can be used to guide process improvement across a project, a division, or an entire organization. CMMI helps integrate traditionally separate organizational functions, set process improvement goals and priorities, provide guidance for quality processes, and provide a point of reference for appraising current processes.
The purpose of CMMI for Development is to help organizations improve their development and maintenance processes for both products and services. CMMI for Development is a collection of best practices which are generated from the CMMI Framework. The Casewise Extension for CMMI® 1.2 supports the CMMI® for Development by allowing multiple models, training courses, and appraisal methods to be generated to support specific areas of interest.
According to the SEI Engineering Institute, 60 organizations which adopted the CMMI model recorded increases of performance in the categories of cost, schedule, productivity, quality and customer satisfaction. With this said, the CMMI model mostly deals with ‘what’ processes should be implemented, and not so much with ‘how’ they can be implemented.
Casewise has therefore taken this need into consideration when developing its CMMI® 1.2 extension. The extension allows users to not only define ‘what’ process should be implemented but also enabling users to model ‘how’ the process can be implemented. As an added resource, users can also execute the processes modeled as Web Services.
The Casewise extension provides navigational views as well as textual information whilst allowing the user to drill down (decompose) from the highest level diagram into any part of the model’s maturity levels. Other benefits to the extension include the ability to add bespoke processes within the model and the option to view the goals and practices for a specific process alongside the properties of different objects.
The Casewise extension for CMMI® 1.2 contains the model for Corporate Modeler and a pre built HTML ready to explore publication. The implementation process can be accelerated by using the Casewise Portal for live access or by using the CAM (Compliance/Control Activity Manager), to perform the maturity assessment and display the results in the Dashboard.
