Casewise®, the thought leaders in Business Processing Modeling, Enterprise Architecture and IT Compliance & Governance, today announced the release of a new Lean Six Sigma extension; the latest edition to its comprehensive extensions library.
Lean Six Sigma is a business improvement methodology which combines (as the name implies) tools from both Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma. Lean manufacturing focuses on speed and traditional Six Sigma focuses on quality. By combining the two, the result is better quality faster.
Lean Six Sigma maximizes shareholder value by achieving the fastest rate of improvement in customer satisfaction, cost, quality, process speed and invested capital. The fusion of Lean and Six Sigma is required because Lean cannot bring a process under statistical control. Six Sigma alone cannot dramatically improve process speed or reduce invested capital
The primary framework used to guide Six Sigma projects is called DMAIC (define, measure, analyze, improve, and control). In the define stage, the project team defines the problem and clarifies the project’s scope. In the measure stage, the team collects data to analyze the problem and assess the process’s current or baseline performance. In the analyze stage, the team determines the problem’s root cause(s) and in the improve stage, the team creates and implements solutions that eliminates or minimizes the root cause(s). During the final control stage, the team uses ongoing measurement and other tools to control the process so the problem doesn’t reappear.
The Casewise Lean Six Sigma extension provides organizations with:
-
A Corporate Modeler model with templates and example based on the DMAIC Framework
-
An approach for making your process lean, with example calculations for Work In Progress (WIP), Lead Time, Process efficiency,..
-
Two different approaches for calculating the Six Sigma value and other values, e.g. Defects Per Million (DPM), Defect Per Unit (DPU), Yield and Defect
-
Presentation content with background information around “Lean” and “Six Sigma”
-
Detailed guidelines of how to use the extension
Lean Six Sigma can be implemented in any operational process within an enterprise such as manufacturing, transactional, sales and marketing or any product or service-related process whose sole emphasis is on improving upon the quality of processes in a business enterprise to the near-perfect level.
