Announcing the Release of Corporate Modeler 2009.2

London, Philadelphia, Paris, Brussels and Frankfurt - jeudi 19 novembre 2009

Casewise®, the thought leaders in Business Process Analysis, Business Process Management and Enterprise Architecture are delighted to announce the release of the latest version of its globally adopted modeling software, Corporate Modeler 2009.2.

In order to service our ever growing client base, this latest release is available in eight different languages including English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Japanese and Russian and includes a number of new features and enhancements which extends the capabilities of the software whilst improving the user experience.

New Explosion Based on Diagram Rule Region Types

The powerful regions functionality within Corporate Modeler has been extended to include two new explosion (drill down) region types all of which enable users to link to diagrams based on properties of those diagrams which provide much greater flexibility and customization over what you can link to:

  • Explosion based on Diagram Rule allows users to link only to diagrams of a specified rule
  • Explosion based on Diagram Rule and Reference Property allows users to link only to diagrams of a specified rule where a specified drop-down list has a specific value.

Docking Points

By enabling Docking points, users can now force lines to connect to shapes at specified points on the outline of the shape helping to keep diagrams consistent and neat.

Set Object Size

This useful new feature enables users to use any object on a diagram to specify that any new shapes added to the diagram should be the same size as the one selected.

Line Routing Enhancements

The way in which lines between connected shapes re-route when moving a shape on a diagram has been significantly improved in 2009.2. A new Maintain Right Angles option ensures that bent lines always retain right-angled points between segments when moving connected shapes around the diagram canvas.

In addition, improvements can also be seen to Automatic Line Routing which cleverly re-routes lines around other shapes and lines on a diagram when moving connected shapes. When this option is enabled, only those segments that need to move actually do move; and any segments which have been manually routed will remain in place. When combined, the Automatic Line Routing and Maintain Right Angles options present a sophisticated solution for diagram editing.

Set Existing Object as Diagram Parent

To aid the creation of drill-down diagrams, users can now select any object listed in the Existing Objects window of Corporate Modeler and make it the parent of the current diagram. An object can drill-down to a diagram which explains in further detail what that object represents. For example, a Process on one diagram could be broken down into a set of smaller Processes which are represented on another diagram. That object is the parent of the drill-down diagram.

Furthermore, while viewing or editing a diagram, users can use the Existing Objects window of Corporate Modeler (including its new search filter), to locate an object in a model and specify that it should be the parent object that drills-down to the current diagram. If the object is represented on another diagram, then it will be shown with an explosion symbol denoting the fact that it drills-down to a detail diagram.

Search Existing Objects

A new search facility in the Existing Objects window now makes it quicker and easier to locate objects to place on a diagram. By using the ‘Find Object’ field, users can filter the list of objects by entering text that matches the name of existing objects. Users can also enable automatic filtering whilst typing and specify the filtering behavior to look for a name which begins with or contains the text being entered.

Corporate Publisher Support for Explosion Regions

Corporate Publisher, the easy-to-use wizard that generates comprehensive HTML websites or Microsoft Word documents direct from Corporate Modeler models now supports explosion regions on diagrams. Objects on diagrams that explode to a drill-down diagram, are now clickable via the hyperlinked explosion region to navigate to that drill-down diagram. The clickable explosion regions are supported in both HTML and Word output.

Object Names in Diagram Tree

The Corporate Modeler Diagram Tree has now been expanded to show the names of objects on each diagram. This useful enhancement makes it much easier to navigate around diagrams, objects and drill-down diagrams.

John Ridley, Casewise Head of Development comments “Having taken onboard feedback from existing Corporate Modeler users and assessed the overall needs, requirements and trends within the modeling tool marketplace, the introduction of Corporate Modeler 2009.2 represents a major step forward in the development of the toolset.
